This week the gallery has had a touch of sparkle ready for the festive evening on Friday night. Some lights have gone up in the front of the gallery and the windows, some tiny trees have appeared, festooned in festiveness and touches of tinsel have popped up here and there.
If you are local to Bridlington you’re very welcome to come along to the festive open evening from 7-9pm at 3 West Street, Bridlington. YO15 3DX. The Magic + Miracles exhibition is on and there is the little pop up shop too.
Behind the scenes, I have been talking to various bodies and people and organisations looking at options for the new year. Some of these include workshop programmes, advertising options, possible new signage for outside and new collaborations. Nothing is finalised yet but it has been exciting to explore what is available and to consider how the gallery will evolve. If you have any ideas or plans you would like to suggest, please get in touch at krivagallery.com/contact.
Winter has certainly arrived this week and it is quite chilly in the studio, I’ve employed a couple of heaters, a faux fur jacket and plenty of hot tea and so far am staying the right side of frozen. There is heat in the gallery though so it is worth popping in to thaw out, view the Magic+Miracles exhibition and browse the shop.
If you are thinking about adding to your art collection or starting one from scratch, you are welcome to arrange a meeting with me to go over what you want to achieve. It is a free and informal, no pressure 30 minute chat. You can tell me what you want and I will provide some ideas and suggestions for you to think about in your own time. Email hello@kreivagallery.com or go to kreivagallery.com/contact to arrange.
I’ve been talking to a few artists this week and one subject we keep coming back to is the need for physical gallery space. The online art world is brilliant but it can’t compete with the experience of standing in a room and viewing the intricacies of a pencil sketch, the brushstrokes of an oil painting or the delicate stitching of a textile piece. Visiting a gallery will always have an impact; whether it evokes a feeling, invites a response, generates inspiration or asks a new question, we all agree it is an extremely valuable and necessary resource. If you want to support art in real life, please consider upgrading to a paid membership. The gallery and the art community will be extremely grateful for your contribution.
You will also receive a digital print of my painting ‘A Series of Magic Connections’ which was shortlisted for the RA Summer Exhibition in 2019. You can choose how to print and display it, or you could choose to give it as a gift.
This week’s artist spotlight is on Dr Emma Powell. We are going back to the nice warm sunny August Open Studios where Emma joined me in the gallery and demonstrated her fantastic letterpress and printing processes. At the time I recorded a series of videos, I have now edited them together and created a short film.
To watch the film and learn more about Emma and her printmaking, sign up as a member and gain access to not only this interview but the Kreiva Gallery archive and all further interviews and artist spotlights.
