CDs for CMT 50 for 50 at 50. A fundraising exhibition for CMTuk the charity for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Myself and both my children have this condition and as October is CMT awareness month I wanted to support this. The exhibition will have 50 painted CD cases, each containing a link to download the music for creativity album by Jonson Walker (that’s my husband). They will be £50 each and 50% will go to the charity.
15th November - 16th December Magic + Miracles Group exhibition. Submit HERE.
When I took over at Kreiva I had more gallery experience as an artist than as a curator. When all the paintings arrived for the first exhibition I then had to find a way to display them in a way that they complemented one another. Group exhibitions at the gallery are on a theme, so the work I choose is richly diverse in style, form and texture. From modern mixed media to traditional oils, photography to illustration to abstract, I didn’t anticipate the pleasure of selecting and displaying other people’s art. When all the packages have been delivered and I’m ready to hang, the thrill of opening a box, unwrapping layers of paper or bubble wrap and seeing the painting inside. Placing them in combinations until it clicks and it all comes together.
Measuring and fixing, checking it is straight. Getting the work on the wall takes intense concentration. Artists are trusting me with their treasure and I don’t take that lightly. Standing back when it is all complete gives me great satisfaction and then replicating it into the online 3D virtual gallery is a great challenge as well.
People and Place was a beautiful celebration of landscapes and portraits from artists from near and far. One of the artists lives down the road from the gallery, another sent her paintings from Spain. One of the greatest things about managing a gallery is the people. I have met and corresponded with so many different folks. Everyone has a different story. From plunging into the coastal landscape for the love of it to painting as a means to heal. From proving people wrong to a side occupation alongside farming, the volume of meaning and purpose behind the art needs to be visited, released and let out into the world.
